Key takeaways:

  • Treatment duration varies by individual and depends on addiction severity, mental health conditions, and personal goals.
  • Buckeye Recovery Network offers multiple outpatient levels of care, including PHP, IOP, Evening IOP, and OP, with flexibility to match each stage of recovery.
  • Long-term treatment (90+ days) significantly increases the chance of lasting sobriety and relapse prevention.

Family support, community involvement, and ongoing alumni services are integral components of Buckeye’s comprehensive recovery approach.

If you’re wondering how long drug rehab would last or how long a standard program is, you’re not alone. Most individuals would want to know how much time is spent, particularly on work, family, and life in general. You may also wonder how long you could stay in rehab or whether outpatient programs are viable options.

At Buckeye Recovery Network, we recognize that recovery is a unique and individualized process. The length of treatment differs from individual to individual depending on your health history, the severity of your affliction, your needs, goals, and development. We believe in one-on-one care and where you stand in recovery.

Our philosophy is family-oriented and compassionate. The facility was founded by brothers and is operated by professionals, the majority of whom are recovering themselves. Buckeye Recovery Network is more than a treatment facility, it’s a community that empathizes with and supports your recovery every step of the way.

What Determines How Long Treatment Takes?

Severity of the Addiction or Mental Health Problem

Individuals who have ongoing addiction problems or complicated co-occurring psychiatric illnesses need more time in treatment centers. The body, mind, and spirit cannot be healed overnight, particularly when trauma or mental illness is a factor.

Our comprehensive treatment heals psychiatric disorders and substance use disorders simultaneously, with the understanding that successful treatment must reach all areas of an individual’s life.

Type of Treatment Program

At Buckeye Recovery Network, we offer levels of care tailored to your stage of recovery. Our rehab facility for drug treatment offers a variety of services that can be stepped down over time to enable long-term success.

  • Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP): Typically lasting one to two weeks, this intensive program involves six hours of structured treatment daily, Monday through Friday. This is the most intensive level of outpatient care and is ideal for individuals who are stepping down from residential treatment or individuals who require a high degree of support but still manage to go home every evening.
  • Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP): This eight- to ten-week program provides three hours of therapy per day, five days per week. Additional vocational services, including job searching, resume development, and interview skills training, are also available to clients after approximately 45 days. This program provides a nice mix of structure and autonomy and enables clients to start rebuilding their lives while still having support.
  • Evening IOP: Our regular IOP, but tailored to individuals with daytime responsibilities, like school or work. It allows for recovery to be incorporated into current commitments without sacrificing the intensity of treatment.
  • Outpatient Treatment (OP): This very flexible level of care can last anywhere from one to three months or more, depending on the individual’s unique needs. It is intended for individuals who are ready to resume their daily life fully while still receiving therapeutic support and accountability.

Progress and Personal Readiness

Each individual recovers differently. Some will rush along, and others will require more long-term care. No hurry, just consistent progress. Our clinical team carefully tracks each client’s progress and modifies the treatment plan to find the appropriate balance, so treatment duration fits each person’s unique requirements instead of random time parameters.

Comprehensive Treatment Approach at Our Huntington Beach Facility

Our Huntington Beach recovery center is holistic in its approach to recovery. Situated in the lively city of Huntington Beach, California, we aim to treat the entire individual, healing mental, emotional, physical, and social well-being. Our programs integrate evidence-based treatments with holistic approaches to assist with overall recovery.

We utilize Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) to help patients challenge negative thoughts and form more helpful ones. We use Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) to address trauma, and Medication-Assisted Treatment (MAT) with individualized medical care.

We also utilize activities such as cardio boxing, hiking, equine therapy, and surfing. These rewarding and enjoyable activities instill confidence, coping mechanisms, and a sense of direction in sobriety.

Realistic Expectations for Recovery Timeline

Healing happens in layers, and understanding this reality is crucial for anyone entering treatment. You may feel better physically after a few days or weeks, but true transformation—emotional regulation, relapse prevention, life balance—takes longer. This is why our approach emphasizes sustainable, long-term recovery rather than quick fixes.

At Buckeye Recovery Network, many clients remain involved with us for three to six months of outpatient treatment, followed by up to a year of alumni support, check-ins, and community events. We follow up regularly because we know staying connected makes all the difference in maintaining sobriety and building a fulfilling life in recovery.

Our sober living partnerships, including The Chadwick House for women, provide additional structure and community support during early recovery. Clients can remain in these supportive environments for 30 to 90 days or longer, depending on their readiness and comfort level. This extended support system helps bridge the gap between intensive treatment and independent living.

Why Longer Treatment Yields Better Results

According to the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA), programs less than 90 days are less effective in preventing relapse. Longer treatment—including ongoing support—gives you the time to rewire habits and thinking, heal relationships, find meaning in sobriety, and develop essential life and vocational skills.

This evidence-based understanding drives our commitment to comprehensive care that extends well beyond initial treatment. Our alumni program ensures that graduates remain connected to a supportive community that understands the ongoing nature of recovery. We provide regular check-ins during the first year after treatment, host alumni events and gatherings, and offer opportunities for graduates to mentor newer clients.

Family Involvement and Community Support

Recovery affects entire family systems, which is why we create weekly opportunities to provide progress updates and answer questions family members may have while their loved one is in treatment. Our Family Education Support Group, led by our Chief Operating Officer Parham Nematollah, meets every Saturday morning to discuss mental health, addiction, and the recovery process.

This open communication helps build trust and ensures everyone is involved in the recovery process. We understand that strong family support significantly improves treatment outcomes and long-term recovery success.

Preparing for Life After Treatment

Treatment is just one step on your path to recovery. At Buckeye, we recognize that ongoing care is the path to long-term success. To keep you connected and encouraged, we offer a variety of community-based alum programs. We also offer mind-body treatments to promote overall well-being, vocational training to help you establish a career, and leadership development to empower you to manage your life.

Our service is individualized and holistic. We combine rigorous life skill development in practical areas, such as budgeting, effective time management, enhancing communication skills, and establishing healthy boundaries with others. These skills will enable you to confront daily life with confidence.

Upon finishing 45 days in our Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP), you are eligible for our vocational services. They are designed to help you build a strong and fulfilling career. They include resume building, job search skills, interview skills, and the provision of professional attire and interview transportation to remove the barriers to employment.
