NOW SERVING ADOLESCENTS | GET STARTED TODAY
Teen IOP supports school success by helping your teen regulate emotions, stay consistent with routines, and handle stress so learning can actually happen. At Buckeye Recovery Network’s teen IOP center in Huntington Beach, we meet teens after school and teach skills they can use the same day in class, at home, and with friends.
When school feels overwhelming, it usually is not about “trying harder.” Anxiety, depression, trauma reactions, peer conflict, and identity stress can make it hard to focus, remember assignments, or even walk into a classroom. Our Teen Intensive Outpatient Program gives teens a structured place to stabilize, build skills, and keep moving forward academically while they get real mental health support.
When anxiety, depression, or mood dysregulation take over, school can feel impossible. Teens stuck in fight-or-flight may shut down, act out, or melt down before the day even starts. A teen IOP helps reduce that pressure by teaching skills to regulate emotions, calm the nervous system, and respond more effectively to stress so school doesn’t feel like a constant battle.
At Buckeye Recovery Network IOP for teens, teens learn how to name what they’re feeling, understand what’s driving their reactions, and use coping strategies that keep them engaged instead of overwhelmed. These tools translate directly to fewer conflicts, better focus, and improved follow-through in class.
Our in-person teen IOP near Huntington Beach runs Monday through Thursday from 3:30 to 5:30 PM. This after-school schedule allows teens to stay enrolled, maintain their academic routine, and receive consistent mental health support without pulling them out of school during the day.
Can teens be in an IOP and continue their education at the same time? Yes, when the program is specifically and carefully designed with teenagers’ needs and interests in mind.
Teen IOP is scheduled around school hours. Teens attend classes during the day and participate in treatment afterward. This approach helps them:
IOP for teens is a strong fit for teens who:
They receive structure, therapy, and accountability during a vulnerable part of the day—without disrupting their school schedule.
Supportive IOP for teens works by focusing on three core elements: structure, skills, and relationships. In Teen IOP, adolescents practice evidence-based approaches such as DBT, CBT, and EMDR in a setting that feels safe, supportive, and age-appropriate. Treatment is led by licensed, graduate-level clinicians who understand teen development, emotional regulation, and family systems.
We keep groups small at our teen IOP center so teens don’t get lost in the crowd. This creates space for them to speak up, build trust, and practice social skills in real time. As teens feel more understood and less isolated, their confidence grows and school stops feeling like a spotlight where every mistake is magnified.
In addition to traditional therapy, Buckeye Recovery Network teen IOP near Huntington Beach integrates creative approaches like art therapy, sound healing, and movement-based work. These modalities give teens ways to express emotions they may not yet have words for. For many teens, this is where meaningful progress begins.
Teen IOP teaches skills that directly affect academic performance:
DBT skills help teens manage intense emotions without damaging relationships with teachers or peers
Teens practice skills in group and individual sessions at our teen IOP center, work through real school scenarios, and return to school the next day with a clear plan. Over time, those skills compound making school feel more manageable and achievable.
Teen IOP helps build focus by supporting executive functioning—the brain’s “manager” for planning, time management, task initiation, and follow-through. Through consistent routines, regular check-ins, and accountability, teens rebuild skills that make it possible to stay organized and engaged in class.
When anxiety or depression is heavy, teens fall behind quickly:
Missed work → Shame → Avoidance → More missed assignments
Teen IOP interrupts this cycle by restoring structure and helping teens take the next step without fear of judgment.
Teens practice practical habits like:
These are foundational school skills even when struggles appear as “behavior problems.” By addressing underlying challenges, IOP for teens helps teens build focus that carries into the classroom.
Teen mental health involves the entire family, which is why Buckeye Recovery Network adopts a family-oriented approach. Caregivers receive weekly family therapy, parent education, and progress updates, so you’re always informed on how to help.
Many teens improve academically when home is predictable, and communication is clear. When parents respond effectively to emotional dysregulation, school mornings can improve. Consistent boundaries make homework less stressful. When everyone is aligned, teens avoid uncertainty, creating stability that benefits the classroom.
Buckeye Recovery Network’s teen IOP center provides a free Family Education and Support Group every Saturday at 10 AM PST, led by Parham Nematollah, COO and licensed counselor with a master’s in Marriage and Family Therapy. Families receive practical mental health, addiction, and recovery support.
Teen IOP is fully separate from adult programming. Teens need an environment that reflects their age, developmental stage, and daily stressors, especially school, peer relationships, and family dynamics.
Buckeye Recovery Network adult programs (PHP, IOP, Evening IOP, and OP) are designed for adults. Teens receive treatment in an adolescent-focused setting at our dedicated teen IOP center. This separation supports:
Teen outpatient rehab / Teen IOP improve school outcomes by increasing stability outside school.
When teens:
Academic performance declines. Teen outpatient rehab / Teen IOP helps teens develop coping skills, replace self-destructive behaviors with healthier choices, and improve their school engagement.

When clinically appropriate, care may also include evidence-based medication-assisted treatment (MAT), all within a coordinated treatment plan.
Our broader recovery ecosystem includes structured check-ins, behavior tracking, and documentation when needed for courts or probation. As stability improves in daily life at home, in the community, and in recovery school becomes manageable again and long-term progress becomes possible.
Long drives, traffic, and missed school add unnecessary stress. After-school teen IOP near Huntington Beach makes it easier to maintain routines, keep caregivers involved, and stay connected to school-based supports.
